How do you want to communicate at work? Start with a vision of what it feels like when communication works well – then you’ll be able to recognize it when it happens again.
We often ask rhetorical questions of one another at work. But what if we asked questions and actually wanted to know the answer? What if we could actually be curious and wonder? Being a curious person who wants to understand is different than being a answer-demanding person who expects that others explain.
We’re born communicators, but that doesn’t mean that some practice doesn’t do us good. We expect that we can all communicate well because it’s something that humans are supposed to be able to do. The trouble is our expectations are often undefined and lead to disappointment when we wonder why they haven’t been met.
